A Prayer for Back to School (Whether You're a Parent or Not) 🙏

With children all over the country headed back to school this month, now is the perfect time to take a pause and say a prayer for the teachers, students, and everyone headed back to the classroom this year.

Not sure what to pray? Here's a prayer to get you started...

p.s. You can pray this prayer whether you have children at home or not!

Dear God,

Thank You so much that we live in a country where our children can receive an education and pursue endless opportunities.

As this school year begins, we pray for all the students, teachers, parents, and administrators getting ready for a new year.

Please give the teachers wisdom, patience, and courage as they navigate conflicting and often concerning student needs, parental demands, and administrative policy, while also trying to balance work and home themselves.

Please help the administrators and politicians make wise decisions in creating and enforcing policies that affect classrooms across the nation and to stand up for what is right, even when it isn't easy, popular, or convenient.

Please give the parents the wisdom to know when to step in, when to step back, and how to best support their students with the tricky issues they'll inevitably face. Please help them balance work and home with grace, even when it's inconvenient and frustrating.

Please help the students to successfully navigate and overcome the obstacles that threaten to prevent them from accomplishing their God-given purpose, both in the classroom and in the real world. We don't ask that You remove every obstacle, but that You use these obstacles to help accomplish Your perfect purpose.

Give the students the wisdom to make wise life choices, and surround them with positive friends, teachers, and mentors who can help guide them on the right path.

For those struggling with physical or mental health issues, learning difficulties, unstable home environments, insecure access to food or housing, poverty, abuse, and/or addiction (either theirs or others'), we ask that You would provide them with caring, trusted adults who will take appropriate action and connect them to the resources they need to succeed.

Thank You for everything You will do and are already doing to prepare these precious students for the good, good purpose You have planned for them. Please help us all to trust and obey You, even before we understand what You're up to.

[Anything else you'd like to pray for your family specifically?]

Amen.

Want Even More Done-for-You Prayers?

If you're anything like me, you know how easy it is to fall into a prayer rut, where you pray for the same few things over and over again.

While that isn't necessarily a bad thing, it can mean you're missing out on the opportunity to take your prayers even deeper. (I know I always find others' prayers so inspiring!)

What do you do when someone you love is clearly struggling, but you don't know how to help (and you're secretly worried about making it worse)? Most of us aren't ignoring hurting people because we don't care. We're just completely overwhelmed. We don't want to say the wrong thing. We don't feel qualified. And honestly, we assume this is what pastors and professional counselors are for. Except they can't keep up. People are hurting at a scale we've never seen before. Anxiety, depression,...

We're in the home stretch before Christmas. Are you feeling completely overwhelmed and frazzled yet? Christmas has a funny way of bringing out the best intentions… and the shortest fuses. You want to soak it all in. Make memories. Be present. Be patient. But suddenly your calendar is full. There’s your husband’s company Christmas party to get ready for, extra cooking and baking for get-togethers with friends and family, kids who are bouncing off the walls with excitement, and a baby who has...

Why is making friends as an adult so awkward? You know what I'm talking about... Have you ever walked into a women’s event or Bible study, spotted an open seat… and immediately worried, “Will they think I’m weird if I sit there?” Or maybe you finally worked up the courage to text another mom to hang out… and then reread the message ten times before sending it. (And she didn’t respond right away? Instant spiral.) Or maybe you’ve reached out before, tried to be friendly, tried to make plans…...
