We're in the home stretch before Christmas. Are you feeling completely overwhelmed and frazzled yet? Christmas has a funny way of bringing out the best intentions… and the shortest fuses. You want to soak it all in. Make memories. Be present. Be patient. But suddenly your calendar is full. There’s your husband’s company Christmas party to get ready for, extra cooking and baking for get-togethers with friends and family, kids who are bouncing off the walls with excitement, and a baby who has recently decided "sleep is for suckers." (Ask me how I know.) You’re trying to do all the things. And somewhere in the middle of it all, your patience starts to wear thin faster than you’d like to admit. If you've ever promised yourself, “Okay, today I will NOT lose my cool… for real this time,” only to lose your cool before breakfast, hi. You're in good company. Most of us assume patience, peace, and kindness come from trying harder, doing better, or magically waking up as a brand-new woman who suddenly loves chaos and sticky floors. (Spoiler: she doesn’t exist.) That's why, in today’s episode, I’m talking with author Ava Pennington about why “trying harder” actually works against us, and why the Holy Spirit’s way is so much better. We dig into the Fruit of the Spirit (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control) and how these traits were never meant to be produced by white-knuckling your way through motherhood. Instead, they’re the natural result of walking with the Holy Spirit… who (good news!) actually wants to carry the weight you keep trying to shoulder yourself. In this conversation, we’ll talk about:
If you’re tired of beating yourself up, tired of trying harder, and tired of feeling like you should be “more patient by now,” take a breath and listen in. Where to Listen: Want to Be a More Patient, Peaceful Mom? Stop Trying So Hard
-- Brittany Ann Equipping Godly Women Want more love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and/or self-control? (Don't we all!) Definitely check out Ava's new book, Flourish: Grace-Centered Practices to Protect and Grow a Fruitful Life in Christ. In it, Ava shows how the fruit of the Spirit grow as we learn to walk with the Holy Spirit and stop fighting battles in our own strength. It’s grace-centered, deeply biblical, and incredibly practical, helping you recognize what’s actually getting in the way and how to move forward without white-knuckling your faith. |

What do you do when someone you love is clearly struggling, but you don't know how to help (and you're secretly worried about making it worse)? Most of us aren't ignoring hurting people because we don't care. We're just completely overwhelmed. We don't want to say the wrong thing. We don't feel qualified. And honestly, we assume this is what pastors and professional counselors are for. Except they can't keep up. People are hurting at a scale we've never seen before. Anxiety, depression,...
Why is making friends as an adult so awkward? You know what I'm talking about... Have you ever walked into a women’s event or Bible study, spotted an open seat… and immediately worried, “Will they think I’m weird if I sit there?” Or maybe you finally worked up the courage to text another mom to hang out… and then reread the message ten times before sending it. (And she didn’t respond right away? Instant spiral.) Or maybe you’ve reached out before, tried to be friendly, tried to make plans…...
I have an exciting announcement! The Equipping Godly Women podcast is officially BACK! And honestly? It just feels good to say that out loud. I’ve missed having a place where we can have REAL conversations about the hard, messy, oh-good-grief-what-now parts of life that every Christian mom deals with… but nobody wants to admit out loud. Each week, we’ll be diving into thought-provoking, perspective-shifting conversations that'll make you think, “Oh wow… I’ve never heard it explained like that...
