These 7 Sins Could Destroy Your Faith... ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

One of my favorite things about Lent is that it's an excellent opportunity to pause and do a spiritual health check-up.

What part(s) of your faith are doing well? What part(s) are you struggling with? What small actions do you need to take today to strengthen your relationship with God?

This might mean adding in new spiritual disciplines, like prayer or Bible reading.

OR it might mean getting honest with yourself (and with God) about your favorite pet sins that you can't seem to let go.

The Bible tells us that ALL sin (even the little ones) can separate us from God and cause a strain on our relationship with Him.

โ€œFor whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.โ€ -- James 2:10

However, this does NOT mean all sins are equal. In fact, the Bible tells us they're not.

Some sins ARE more serious than others. They come with greater consequences both now and in eternity.

โ€‹

(I feel like this should be common sense. Murder and complaining aren't equal, though the Bible says both are sinful. However, I've seen "all sins are equal to God" taught so often within various Christian settings that I feel it's worth mentioning.

Not sure about this? I did a whole article on this with tons of Scripture here: Are All Sins Equal in the Eyes of God?)

So, which sins are worse than others? Enter: The Seven Deadly Sins.

Fun fact: The Bible never mentions the seven deadly sins as a group or states that these sins are worse than the other ones.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church does have a very similar list of "capital sins," which are essentially the same thing, but the list itself has evolved over the centuries.

HOWEVER: The Bible has quite a bit to say on each of these sins individually.

โ€‹

โ€‹

In What are the Seven Deadly Sins (Capital Sins) in the Bible? we're taking an in-depth look on exactly what the Bible has to say about these particular seven sins and what makes them so "deadly."

I'd really encourage you to read it.

And as you do, prayerfully ask yourself these questions:

  • How does each particular sin show up in my life? (Probably multiple ways.)
  • Which sins are a huge area of concern for me? Which are less concerning?
  • Are there any small actions I need to start or stop doing?
  • Are there any BIG actions I need to start or stop doing?
  • What happens if I refuse to take any action?

Do you create Easter Baskets for your kids or grandkids each year? Personally, we do a mix in our family. Some years, we give the kids an empty basket to fill with candy we've scattered inside or outside (depending on the weather). Other years, we've put some of the bigger candy items (like chocolate bunnies) right inside the basket and let the kids go on an Easter egg hunt for the rest. Our children's grandparents will often give our children candy, bubbles, and/or small toys -- whether...

Can you believe Easter is right around the corner? I don't know about where you live, but the stores here are all fully stocked with ALLLL sorts of candy, eggs, baskets... all the Easter goodies that make an Easter morning egg hunt fun! (And I am 100% looking forward to some delicious Easter candy I'm already planning on my children sharing with me from their Easter baskets this year! #momtax) Yet, as fun as it is to do all of our favorite Easter traditions, Easter is just one of those...

It's crazy to think my littlest pumpkin is over 6 months old now! She crawls all over the place, pulls herself up to standing, LOVES peek-a-boo, and eats all sorts of healthy "people" food, like chicken, fish, mushrooms, spinach, yogurt, and apples. She's the cutest little bundle of joy, and we're all just absolutely smitten with her. ๐Ÿ˜ Of course, the last six months have definitely been an adjustment... from being able to work all day while all my kids were in school to now taking care of a...
